In October, Brazilian soccer teams will play the following games:

The senior men’s team will face Senegal and Nigeria in friendlies on the 10th and 13th.

The senior women’s team will play England and Poland in friendlies on the 5th and 8th.

The U-23 men will continue their preparation for the Olympics with friendlies against Venezuela and Japan on the 10th and 14th.

The U-17 men (well, boys) will play in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the first youth World Cup ever held in Brazil. That starts on the 26th.

The squads for these games were all announced in the past 48 hours. Here’s the rundown:

Brazil Men

Goalkeepers: Ederson (Manchester City), Weverton (Palmeiras), Santos (Athletico-PR)

Defenders: Daniel Alves (São Paulo), Danilo (Juventus), Alex Sandro (Juventus), Renan Lodi (Atlético Madrid), Thiago Silva (PSG), Marquinhos (PSG), Éder Militão (Real Madrid), Rodrigo Caio (Flamengo)

Midfielders: Casemiro (Real Madrid), Arthur (Barcelona), Fabinho (Liverpool), Matheus Henrique (Grêmio), Philippe Coutinho (Bayern Munich), Lucas Paquetá (Milan)

Attackers: Everton (Grêmio), Firmino (Liverpool), Gabriel Barbosa (Flamengo), Richarlison (Everton), Neymar (PSG), Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City)

Notes: Gabriel Jesus and Everton Cebolinha return after brief absences for extenuating circumstances, and presumably will be brought back in to the starting lineup straight away. Danilo and Rodrigo Caio return after longer spells out of the fold. Caio has long deserved a new opportunity with the senior team, while Danilo is given another chance as the search for a decent backup for Dani Alves continues.

We also have two very interesting debutants (plus Santos, who isn’t likely to play). Matheus Henrique stepped easily into the void Arthur left at Grêmio, and his selection over Allan suggests that Tite might be looking for someone who can more closely replicate Arthur’s style when the man himself is unavailable. Renan Lodi jumps straight to the senior team after Atlético Madrid refused to release him for U-23 play. I’ve been seeing some tremendous hype for him, but I haven’t personally watched him very much. He’s long been on Tite’s radar as the potential future of the Seleção at left-back, and after how horrible Alex Sandro was in the last friendlies, he might have the chance to stake his claim at just 21 years of age. Meanwhile, Alex Telles must be wondering what he has to do to get another chance.

On the whole, a really good callup. There’s pretty much nobody whose inclusion I object to, though there are some other faces I’d like to see.

Brazil Women

Goalkeepers: Aline (UD Granadilla Tenerife), Bárbara (Avaí/Kindermann), Letícia (Corinthians)

Defenders: Poliana (São José), Daiane (Tacón), Tamires (Corinthians), Kathellen (FC Bordeaux), Mônica (CFF Madrid), Erika (Corinthians), Giovanna (Avaldsnes), Bruna Benites (Internacional)

Midfielders: Aline Milene (Ferroviária), Formiga (PSG), Luana (KSPO Women), Maria (Juventus), Thaisa (Tacón)

Attackers: Andressa Alves (Roma), Bia Zaneratto (Incheon), Chú (Changchun Dazhong), Debinha (North Carolina Courage), Ludmila (Atlético Madrid), Marta (Orlando Pride) e Victória (Corinthians).

Notes: This is Pia Sundhage’s second crack at calling up the women’s squad, and for the most part she’s keeping the same core of familiar names. The women beat Argentina 5-0 in Sundhage’s first game in charge, and frankly, if that level of success continues, I’ll be a little bit mad. If the only thing that kept this golden generation of women—including the best player in the history of the women’s game—from winning any major titles proves to be the quality of the coaches the CBF appointed for years (particularly since they were reluctant for so long to put a woman in charge)…

Brazil U-23

Goalkeepers: Cleiton (Atlético-MG), Daniel Fuzato (Roma), Ivan (Ponte Preta)

Defenders: Emerson (Betis), Guga (Atlético-MG), Caio Henrique (Fluminense), Felipe Jonatan (Santos), Bruno Fuchs (Internacional), Ibañez (Atalanta), Luiz Felipe (Lazio), Lyanco (Torino)

Midfielders: Allan (Fluminense), Bruno Guimarães (Athletico-PR), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Mauro Jr. (Heracles), Pedrinho (Corinthians), Wendel (Sporting)

Attackers: Antony (São Paulo), Malcom (Zenit), Matheus Cunha (Leipzig), Paulinho (Bayer Leverkusen), Pedro (Fiorentina), Rodrygo (Real Madrid)

Notes: André Jardine is not playing around with Olympic qualification. Malcom and Pedro have been called up to Brazil’s senior team before; rumor had it Bruno Guimarães would be called up this time. It’s as full-strength as we could have asked for, given the players who wouldn’t be allowed to participate by their clubs.

Brazil U-17

Goalkeepers: Marcelo (Fluminense), Matheus Donelli (Corinthians), Cristian (Atlético-MG)

Center-backs: Henri (Palmeiras), Renan (Palmeiras), Luan Patrick (Athletico-PR), Paulo Eduardo (Cruzeiro)

Fullbacks: Yan (Coritiba), Patryck (São Paulo), Gustavo Garcia (Palmeiras)

Defensive midfielders: Daniel Cabral (Flamengo), Diego Rosa (Grêmio)

Midfielders: Reinier (Flamengo), Talles Costa (São Paulo), Matheus Araújo (Corinthians), Sandry (Santos)

Attackers: Gabriel Veron (Palmeiras), Juan (São Paulo), João Peglow (Internacional), Kaio Jorge (Santos), Talles Magno (Vasco)

Notes: I don’t know too much about any of these players, but there’s huge hype around Reinier and Talles Magno. I eagerly look forward to learning more during the U-17 World Cup.
