In the last round of voting

Roberto Carlos’ legendary free kick against France in 1997 thrashed Maicon’s solo goal against Paraguay in 2004 with 87% of the vote.

Sócrates’ long-range shot against USSR at the 1982 World Cup just beat out Ronaldo’s second goal from the 2002 World Cup final, with 54% of the votes.

Ronaldinho’s free kick against England in the 2002 World Cup quarterfinals won very easily over Márcio Rossini’s backheel against Sweden in 1983, with 91% of the vote.

The final matchup was between Júlio Baptista’s goal against Catalunya, probably the best bicycle kick in Seleção history, and Éder’s goal against Scotland in the 1982 World Cup, probably the best chip in Seleção history. Fittingly, it ended in a perfect tie, and as a tiebreaker, I’ve decided to use a very complex set of criteria: I’m running this tournament, so I’m picking the one I like better. Júlio Baptista it is.

TODAY’S VOTING

After opening the scoring with a right-footed volley in Brazil’s first game of the 2013 Confederations Cup, Neymar opened the scoring of the next game against Mexico with a left-footed volley.

It faces a ridiculous Ronaldinho solo goal from a 6-0 friendly win against Haiti in 2004.

Up next, we have another Confederations Cup goal, Kaká opening Brazil’s 2009 campaign with a juggling act against Egypt…

Against it is a genuine surprise inclusion—a goal from the hated Paulinho! This was the first goal of his hat-trick against Uruguay in World Cup qualifying in 2017.

In the next matchup, Éder’s game-winning goal from the 1982 World Cup opener against the USSR…

…faces the final goal from the final of the 1989 World Cup of Masters, a tournament for players aged 35 and over.

Oscar’s icing-on-the-cake goal against Belarus in the group stage of the 2012 Olympics is on this list because of Neymar’s superb work setting it up. I still have never seen anybody else nutmeg a player with a header.

It faces another Olympic goal, Daniela’s opener in a 2-1 quarterfinal victory for the women over Norway in 2008.

I’ll try and wrap this round of voting up by Sunday night.
